    Responsibilities

    JOB FUNCTION:

    1. Exercises Decision Maker Signature Authority as required as Approver of Certification projects for Construction Products Regulation compliance in your respective areas of expertise including status review, and final technical review of those projects.
    2. Exercises Project Handler Signature Authority as Project Handler of certification projects. Responsible for opening, maintenance, completion, and closing of assigned new work engineering projects relating to the building materials for standards and codes across the world as required by our customers and within the designated competency levels (see Competency/Experience below).
    3. Exercises Review Signature Authority as required as Reviewer of certification projects. Responsible for initial review, status review, and final technical review of all new work engineering projects relating to the building materials for standards and codes across the world as required by our customers and within the designated competency levels.
    4. Provides expert technical advice and counsel to customers, colleagues and to The Company overall regarding matters relating to building materials for standards and codes within the designated competency levels.
    5. Works within UL to support client interaction activities. This will include colleagues within BLST division, sales staff and UL staff in other divisions as required to support our customers from a technical position relating to building materials for areas in which technical competence is designated.

    Responsibilities

    1. Determines project scope and specifications with substantial latitude for action or decision. Recommends changes in procedures, design or equipment where necessary.
    2. Plans, conducts and supervises projects of major magnitude and scope. Determines areas in which the product is not in compliance with The Company requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications, and notifies client.
    3. Coordinates complex laboratory activities by developing data sheets. Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. May serve as Project Handler and may sign as Reviewer as assigned and within the designated areas of technical competences
    4. Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
    5. Develops internal requirements for testing products beyond the scope of existing standards, or those involving unique features requiring frequent use of independent judgment.
    6. Recommends changes in procedures where necessary.

    Qualifications

    • University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology plus directly related work experience.
    • Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.
    • At least 2 years direct experience in CPR certification scheme requirements

    Product Specific Areas – Fire Detection/ Fire Suppression

    Knowledge / Experience the following areas:

    • Electronics / Electrical engineering / Mechanical Engineering
    • Fire Detection and Alarm Systems
    • EN54 or ISO7240 series of standards or equivalent
    • EN12259 series of standards
    • EN12094 series of standards
    • EN14384 or equivalent

     

    • Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in use in areas of expertise, including application to complex, new, or unusual products.
